While exploring the streets of Kandy, Sri Lanka, we recorded a variety of soundscapes that capture the city's unique blend of urban life, nature, and cultural traditions. From the energy of bustling intersections filled with the sounds of honking tuk-tuks, emergency sirens, and lively pedestrian chatter to the quiet serenity of parks and lakesides where birds, crows, and gentle footsteps create a peaceful atmosphere, this library offers a rich mix of recordings. We wandered through underground passages, bus stops, markets, and restaurants, recording the everyday sounds of locals and tourists moving through the city.

Beyond the urban hustle, we recorded the crackling of oil candles in a park, where people gathered to light them for religious ceremonies. A sudden downpour brought the rhythmic drumming of rain against metal rooftops and car surfaces, blending with the distant hum of traffic and nature. Early mornings by the lake revealed the soft sounds of ducks paddling in the water, crows calling from the trees, and the steady swish of street cleaners sweeping the paths. Inside shrines and temples, we recorded the quiet reverence of these sacred spaces, where soft footsteps echoed across wooden floors and hushed conversations added to the meditative ambience.
