With the acquisition of the LOM Elektrosluch Mini City, a device we bought second-hand from Japan and had shipped to Bangkok, we were set to explore the world of electromagnetic sound effects in a new way, this time using a massage gun. This unique endeavor allowed us to tap into the lesser-known aspects of sound recording, focusing on the electromagnetic fields (EMF) that everyday objects emit.
Upon setting up the Elektrosluch Mini City, we began experimenting with the massage gun, varying its settings from the lowest at 1 up to the highest at 32. The sounds produced were surprisingly reminiscent of a racing car engine, full of energy and ready to leap into action. This initial test opened up a new avenue for sound collection, highlighting the diversity and potential within electromagnetic sound recording.
We adjusted its intensity from the maximum setting back down to 1 and this process resulted in a collection of sound files, each distinct and unique, showcasing the wide range of sounds that a single device can produce.
This idea, blending technical precision with creative exploration, underscores the potential for innovative sound design using electromagnetic fields.
