As I lived in Ubud, I had the privilege of meeting a young composer and together, we recorded the sounds of Gamelan music instruments.
With a collection of instruments in hand, including the Gender (of different sizes), Gong, Bonang, Kendang (drums), Ching Ching, and a broom, we recorded a range of tones that would showcase the beauty of these instruments.
We chose to record mostly at night to avoid the distractions of construction and street noise, but you’ll still hear the occasional chirping of cicadas or the pitter-patter of raindrops in some of the recordings.
Using the Zoom F4 and Zoom F8n, and equipped with the DPA 4060 and AKG C 411 contact microphones, we recorded all sounds in 192kHz/24Bit to ensure that you receive the best possible quality.
Recording these instruments was a thrilling experience, and we’re confident that you’ll love the results. Our favorite sound of all has to be the gong. It’s simply out of this world!
