Are you a fan of nature’s soundscapes? If so, a visit to Bali during the monsoon season is a must-do. From October to April, Bali experiences its rainy season, which is the perfect time to capture the sounds of rain and thunder.
Libby and I have had the opportunity to visit Bali several times in the past few years, and we always prefer to go during the rainy season. This time of year offers less tourism and the rain usually only lasts for a few hours each day.
When we’re in Bali, we like to rent a small house near the rice fields outside of Ubud. The peaceful setting, surrounded by nature, palm trees, cicadas, a small river, and some roaming chickens, is the perfect environment for capturing the sounds of rain and thunder.
From our balcony, facing the jungle, we were able to record a variety of rain sounds, including strong rain, soft rain, and distant thunder rolling in. The sounds are not as aggressive as those in cities like Denver or Singapore, making for a serene and relaxing listening experience.
While driving to the north side of Bali one day, I was caught by surprise by a heavy rain shower and took shelter under a small pergola. This gave me the opportunity to capture the sound of heavy rain along with passing traffic.
In this rain and thunder sound library, you’ll find everything from calm rain to heavy showers with hail, distant thunder with a low rumble, and intense lightning strikes. These sounds are perfect for sleep, meditation, sound design, and post-production.
