Insect Wings Sound Effects

At our home near the rainforest in Bali, we were surrounded by the sounds of the insect world. One night, as the sun set, we were treated to a mesmerizing display as thousands of insects flew to the nearest light source and formed a swarm that lasted for several hours.
The next morning, we saw the aftermath of the swarm and the clean-up process as hungry geckos, birds, ants, and spiders came to feast on the fallen insects. We also observed the “nature police” (ants) as they worked together to clean up the carnage of wings covering the floor.
Our setup included a Zoom H6 and a pair of Micro USI Pro by LOM microphones, which allowed us to record the wings and vibrations of the insects up close. We also experimented with the Limpet contact microphones and mixed the recordings with other sounds such as cicadas, frogs, dogs, and chickens for a truly authentic experience.
