As a field recordist, I’ve always been captivated by the distinct sounds of nature, and one such unique sound system is the traditional “Subak” water system in Bali. Recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Cultural Landscape, this ancient irrigation method flows gracefully across the island, creating an enchanting melody as it passes through the scenic rice paddies.

Every morning, I’d find myself drawn to a 30-minute run alongside these fields, mesmerized by the soothing sounds of the flowing water. The unique audio profile of each area compelled me to record this auditory magic, so I equipped myself with my Zoom H6 recorder and DPA 4060 omnidirectional microphones.

The result is a collection of 14 different water sounds, each encapsulating the traditional irrigation system. This library is a trove of tranquility, perfect for meditation, relaxation, or as a calming background for study. It also serves as a unique resource for film and video projects requiring unique water sounds.
