Recording electromagnetic sound effects in Singapore
A few weeks ago I discovered Jonas Gruskas ( LOM) Priezor antenna and ordered it on the spot. I always wanted to record electromagnetic fields and here it is. The first album “Electromagnetic Fields Vol 01” is out and ready to download.
I walked around Singapore and recorded these sound effects at MRT stations, in a bus, arcade center, elevators, and escalators, on air conditions, an orange juice vending machine, lights, printers and high voltage boxes that you can find all around Singapore.
With a device like this could have got me in trouble especially here in Singapore.
Cameras are just everywhere and the people who looked at me while having this antenna in my hand had all very suspicious looks in the face. What I can clearly understand.
Imagine you see somebody with something like the Priezor and that person scans high voltage devices or trains with it. 🙂 What would you think?
Clearly, this guy record sounds for music makers and sound designers, right? 😉
I am thinking about recording differently with that device but right now I am happy with the outcome of these sound effects I could capture and more will come.
How I recorded these electromagnetic sound effects
So as I mentioned I used the Priezor by LOM and as the recording device, I used the Zoom F4 and the new Zoom F8n. I will replace the F8n for the F4 or use both depending on the situation.
All recordings are in high-quality 24-bit 192 kHz. That will give you a lot of room to experiment with these sound effects.
I edited all sounds and included the best into the album and after listening for over 3 hours to these waves it was time for a break. My brain couldn’t handle it anymore and I am more than happy to record street ambience again.
