Update June 2018! I was out again at night and recorded more frog sounds! Now you can download 37 tracks from Bandcamp!
You can download the Zoom F4 version direct from SoundCloud or you scroll down and download both versions.
Rain Season is almost there in Chiangmai. Still very hot and humid.
After the rain is the perfect time for frog sound recording and I might go out again at night to record more frog sounds and will include them afterward to this blog post as well. Also one of my favorite recordings are the one at night time.
A few nights ago I left the house around 11 pm in the hope to find several frog sound destinations.
I found a place with several frogs but the bummer was its right next to a generator so I couldn’t get a clean croaking sound. But this file is also in my “secret sound library” included. A sound is a sound and maybe this one is perfect for your project? If you have access you can find them in the Sounds Of Thailand category.
But 30 minutes later I found the perfect spot. Here is the spot on Google maps.
I drove all the way up to huay tueng thao but it the main gate was closed and I had to drive back and found a little dirt road. It was super dark and nobody was there besides me and a group of dogs who never left me out of sight. They hang out on the street and let me do my thing. I was glad to have some dogs around me.
If you ask me which frogs I have recorded I cant tell. Not because it’s too dark its the lack of experience when it comes to animal sounds. I made my research and according to the website Wildlife Thailand, I found 43 different species. If you know what frog it is please feel free leave me a comment below or shoot me a message and I will add it to it.
What I found extremely interesting while recording is the fact if you hear an airplane in the background the frogs stopping to croak or getting very quite until the aircraft is gone. You can really listen how airport noise effects our nature.
I did two recordings and you can download both files. The first one is recorded on the Zoom F4 field recorder together with the DPA 4060. I hold the omnis in my left and right hand and swung from left to right and centered the loudest frog in the middle of the microphones.
The second recording is from the Zoom H6. I needed some backup sound just in case I have some issues with the F4.
I just placed the Zoom in front of the frogs and recorded that way.
It’s also great to compare the audio quality of the H6 with the F4 and the DPA 4060. Listen to it and ask yourself if you could tell the difference?
