Welcome to the Fullerton Train Station!
People all over the world are fascinated by trains me included so I went to the Fullerton Train Station in Orange County to record the sound of trains! I am going to include some of these sounds on my other YouTube Channel “Libby and Marcel” for our travel across the US video!
Do you know the Movie Unstoppable with Denzel Washington and Chris Pine?
A Sound Recorder told me that he recorded sound for this Movie on this Station. So we have a film location here!
The Fullerton Train Station!
The Fullerton Transportation Center in Orange County is a freight and passenger rail and a bus station as well!
Every day trains by Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner, Metrolink Line, and Southwest Chief trains are stopping here and numerous of freight trains passing by!
The station has two historic buildings! The first one was built in 1923 by the Union Pacific Railroad and the second building in 1930 by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. It has an Amtrak ticket office and a passenger waiting area and a cafe to the left side.
It also has a bridge that connects the train lines! I recorded one freight train from the top of the bridge!
People are very nice here and I had a few conversations about my recording with an employer and with people who are just curious what I am doing here!
The BNSF Freight Trains!
These Freight Trains are massive and can carry more 200 double-stacked containers and are hauled by more than just one diesel-electric locomotive. One train can have a total length of more than 3 miles and they speed up to 70 mph/112 km/h.
The Locomotive itself might be a General Motors GE Dash 9-44CW with 6 engines and 3.280 kW!
If I see a train outside of the city and hope I hope I can record this too because in Fullerton they come slowly but still listen to that sound! We driving down to Texas in less than 2 months so it is very possible!
The Metrolink trains in the video coming from Los Angeles and going down the coast to Oceanside.
Metrolink used two types of trains. One is the Tier 4 Locomotive and the other one is a Hyundai Rodem Cars Locomotive and I am pretty sure we have both in the video!
More about the fleet here on the Metrolink Website.
Not in the Video but in the Sound Folder! I just arrived around noon in the daytime and saw the Amtrak Train! The train stopped right in front of me and if you listen to this beeping noise this is a woman who came with an electronic golf caddy to pick up people who can not walk. I am pretty sure this train is the Pacific Surfliner who started in San Luis Obispo and goes down to San Diego with a total length of 350 miles or 563 km!
The Locomotive is probably an EMD F59PHI built by General Motors
If you watch the video you will see at first a Metrolink Train, a Freight Train, and another MetroLink Train!
In the Download Folder on my Archive.org Account, you find more free sounds of the Freight Trains and one Amtrak Passenger Train Sound!
The place where I recorded the sound!
The equipment I used to capture the sound and the video + the Software that I used to edit the video!
